Breadfruit

My mother created a quilt for me when I was a child.  It has been with me in my home for many years but always folded up and never showcased.  I have always wanted the quilt on the wall highlighting my mother's skills.  The quilt went on the family room wall.

Breadfruit - my first memory of eating breadfruit was with my grandmother, Pat.  Her yard had a huge breadfruit tree that would send crashing breadfruits to the lawn.  At any given time, 10 dead breadfruit would litter her yard.  One same days, she would fry up the breadfruit and we would eat the tasteless breadfruit.  Breadfruit chip were also another way she would create this fruit into food.

Breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis) is a species of flowering tree in the mulberry family, Moraceae, growing throughout Southeast Asia and most Pacific Ocean islands. It is also grown in the Leeward Islands and Windward Islands of the Caribbean and in Africa. Its name is derived from the texture of the cooked moderately ripe fruit, which has a potato-like flavor, similar to freshly baked bread.





And yes they are the size of a small bowling ball and really fun to pick up and throw at your sister.  Just be forewarned that sometimes the fruit is too mushy that when you pick up the launch the fruit at your sister MaryPat, the fruit busts open and ends up on yourself.
