I know I am not the only mother, employee, business owner, wife, friend ... and every other hat that I wear mom that is trying her best to find the balance. Or am I?
So in the midst of busy work deadline and being mom, I went up to the eleventh hour to plan the girls 13th birthday. I knew the big day was quickly approaching but did not really realize the date was less then a week away until I came home on Sunday night after working till 9:15 p.m. I walked into the house and Sydney said, 'Mom, we need to talk." I thought, okay, stay focused on her, put your mom hat on. She said, "meet me upstairs in my room." I quickly put my paperwork away and headed to her room. As I entered her room, she said, 'Dad already said yes." Then I knew exactly what she was after. This was not a chick question, this was the dog conversation.
As I sat down on the fuzzy chair and realized my suspicions were correct. Sydney had created a Powerpoint presentation on "Why Lexi needed a dog for her birthday since I failed to plan their spa party." because I did not get their birthday slumber party organized, she felt the only logical alternative would be going to the pound and choosing another family member aka dog.
I patiently, listened, nodded and left. I loved that Sydney was working very hard to get her sister a dog. This is a normal occurrence in Lexi's routine - Powerpoint presentations, listing a dog on the groceries shopping list (A REAL living and breathing German Shepard), letters, notes, cards and daily reminders. She has done this since she was tiny.
My logical step, first thing Monday morning was to call a spa, any spa and book a 13th birthday party for four young ladies. By that afternoon, we had two party goers and two birthday girls set to have a spa slumber party! I'm off the hook for now or at least until the next Powerpoint presentation or when i forget to put on the Mommy Birthday Party Hat.
