Cooking... not my thing .... yet
So I suck at cooking.
Yes, you may think I am exaggerating.
I wish
.
I was a cook in a nursing home in college resulting in 12 dozen burnt eggs! Repeated this skill in my late 20s ruining a Teflon pot while making boiled eggs.
Yup, I have burnt boiled eggs twice.
So when I got married, obviously my husband cooked. He didn't know that chili comes from a can and ramen takes 2 minutes until met me. My husband has cooked for years until ....
his masters and hockey.
So for the family to eat, I have taken over responsibility to '
cook
'. After months (maybe a year now that I think about it), we have eaten strange concoctions, frozen everything and anything and lots of sandwiches.
So now that I have committed to this '
Fed and Fit
' - I thought I should practice before we start Sunday. I have '
riced
' cauliflower only to learn my husband hates cauliflower that all the times we have ever eaten it, he was being nice. Ricing is very messy. [Tidbit: A friend mentioned that I can buy riced cauliflower at the store].
I have tried the ginger lemonade - well I didn't have lemons so I did limes. My taste buds are so used to sweet drinks that the coughing fit was so impressive my family thought I was dying momentarily.
Crock pots are my best friend as they do the '
standing and watching
' the food - I tried the beef and squash soup which was good. I realized that cutting squash is not as easy as it appears and don't overcook (my specialty).
Here is why I do not enjoy cooking -
1. It takes too long.
2. I get side tracked.
3. Nothing cooks in 2 minutes (unless it's ramen noodles).
4. I tend to 'substitute' things without having real cooking knowledge - sometimes killing the edibility of the dish.
5. Cooking creates dishes (I have loved paper plates since I was a child - just ask my Dad).
But I am not discouraged.
I will follow directions and create great healthy meals for my peeps. I pray my peeps eat the dishes (it bums me out when they do not even try it). I will succeed.
